Your Home Improvement Needs

Buy and Sell

What can you find at Happy Harry's Used Building Materials? Windows and doors, and a whole lot more.

Happy Harry's lot at 46 Archibald in St. Boniface is crammed full of just about anything you need for your home improvement projects and any other building task you have in mind. And you'll be surprised at the savings you can find.

"If you go to a retail building-supply dealer for parts for your toilet, you could pay $20, or more," says Happy Harry's president, Harry Bohna, pointing to a row of porcelain toilets. "Here, I'd sell you the whole thing for $20."

In fact, the idea of 'get more, pay less' is the way Bohna and wife Carol operate the business. Happy Harry's buys, sells, and takes consignments on a vast range of building materials and parts: bathtubs, lights, fireplaces, piping -- you name it. Cash is paid for unwanted items in good condition, and Bohna even offers a free pick-up service. As Bohna likes to say, "We buy it all -- just give us a call!"

Every day is a beehive of activity at the lot, with customers constantly looking for hard-to-get items for renovating houses. "It's a circus around here on Saturdays," says Carol, picking up the ringing phone to take another call.

"We're the auto wreckers of the housing industry," Harry laughs, looking on as two customers haul away a 4-by-5 wooden storm window. "To get that made new, they'd probably have to pay $150. I'm charging them $20."

With 17 years' experience in the contracting industry, Bohna started Happy Harry's because he knew there was a demand for used building materials. "People walk in here all the time, and they're shocked at how little they pay for the things they need," Bohna notes. "Talk about recycling -- this is true recycling in action. It's a new dimension in salvage."

Need a door? Bohna figures Happy Harry's has about 1,000 in stock. Have to replace a broken light fixture? Bohna has a wide assortment. Want to build a dock or a boathouse, but you don't want to pay a fortune to do it? Happy Harry's is the place to go.

The sign may say "Happy Harry's," but with this kind of selection at these kinds of prices, you'll be the one who leaves happy!
